FAQs

Who judges? Does it change every year?
Judging is done by other volunteers in other SPJ chapters from around the country in order to keep the process impartial. In exchange, SPJ-Indiana chapter members are recruited to judge other chapters’ award contests. If you would like to volunteer to be a judge, please email info@spjcontest.com.

Who won last year?
The list of last year’s winners can be found HERE.

Can I nominate myself for awards?
Yes. The contest is open to submissions from organizations and individuals. However, some special categories like Journalist of the Year work better when you’re sponsored by someone like an editor or news director. Please check the submission rules for full details.

How long has this contest been around?
The contest has been honoring the best of the best in Indiana journalism for over 32 years. This is the 33rd annual contest.

Can I submit entries online?
Not this year. In an effort to simplify and standardize the process for all entrants, we’ll only be taking entries via mail this year. As always, if you need help (e.g. have to use a credit card), you can always contact us at info@spjcontest.com.
